In this episode I’m joined by Monty Moran, former Co-CEO of Chipotle.

He joined them when they had 8 stores and left after there were over 2,500 and their valuation grew from a few million to $23 billion over his decade with the company.

What is interesting is what he cites as the key to the success, and it came from one-on-one conversations with employees, and connecting the company mission to theirs.

He did this 20,000 times. It sounds altruistic, but look at Chipotle’s ridiculous success.

In our businesses we are told to have a mission. A “why” as Simon Sinek teaches.

Then communicate it to the employees. But do they really care?

They care about their personal mission, and that is what Monty connected to.

And this is what we discuss in this episode. It’s the crux of his book, with one of my favorite titles ever, “Love Is Free, Guac Is Extra,” which, this is cool, go to Loveisfree.com and buy the book and he’ll write whatever you want in it and send it to you.

Monty lives up in Boulder Colorado and a few weeks ago while I was in Leadville on a getaway, he flew over and we had a 3.5 hour breakfast talking about ideas to change the world.

He’s just a quality, enthusiastic, insightful guy and I’m so glad to bring his message to you right now.

Overland:

Let me tell you right now: there is nothing I do every day that is comfier, or more luxurious, than slipping into a pair of Overland sheepskin slippers.

I have come to appreciate quality products, and I like to buy things from companies whose image and ethos I want to associate with. So…I’m a barefoot guy and at home I generally don’t have shoes on. However, my house sits at 9,200’ above sea level and our downstairs has a concrete floor. I now slip my feet every morning into…Overland sheepskin slippers. Mine have a decent sole on the bottom so I can also step out in the snow to wipe off car windshields and such. The are like putting my feet in a warm cloud.

Overland is a family-owned American heritage brand that’s put comfort and quality first for nearly 50 years.

● They offer outerwear, accessories, and home décor made from sustainable natural fibers like sheepskin, leather, and wool.  Overland uses expert craftsmanship to pair the highest-quality Merino sheepskin—which is naturally moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and anti-microbial—with supportive memory foam midsoles, in order to make slippers that feel better and wear better, for longer.

  • Something that really sets Overland apart is they’re one of the only brands in the world that use true double-faced sheepskin, so the suede you see outside is the same piece as the fluffy sheepskin you feel inside. It’s lighter, more breathable, and means there are no synthetic materials touching your feet. Plus, you know you’re getting top quality material because it has to look and feel great all over to meet their standards.  If you want a pair of well-made, comfier-than-you-could-imagine slippers—these are the ones to get. They make an incredible gift to give.
