I was pondering a pulse on the culture and did a random survey asking,

“What is primarily driving you right now, in all truth. The waking thought that pushes you out of bed in the morning or is on your mind when you go to sleep at night? Duty, Pain, or Desire?”

My motive was really to see what people were most cognizant of.

I think we’d all like to say we are most driven by desire, and nobody wants to say they are driven by pain, and it’s sobering to realize how much we are driven by mere duty, but again, I wanted to get a feel for how people perceived themselves.

We also can differ a good bit in how we defined these terms.

Is duty valiant or drudgery?

I’m going to talk through some of the comments and the point is awareness of what really is driving us, and what we want driving us.
